Body Types
Do you know that there are different body types among us? Understand your body type makes it easier for you to either gain weight or lose body fats. Another advantage is that you can plan how many calories you should take a day for you to gain or lose weight over a period of time. This can in term help you to cut short the time of gaining or losing weight.
There are three basic human body types: the endomorph, the mesomorph, and the ectomorph.
Ectomorph
Let’s start with ectomorph. Ectomorph tends to be thin, have long limbs and struggles to gain weight as either body fat or muscle. They can eat lots of food but still look almost the same, even when gaining muscular weight is their biggest goal. They are also known as “hardgainers.”
Traits of Ectomorph
- Narrow shoulders and hips in respect to height
- Relatively smaller muscles in respect to bone length
- Difficult to gain mass due to fast metabolism
Mesomorph
The mesomorph has the best of both worlds. They tend to have wide shoulders, a narrow waist, relatively thin joints, and round muscle bellies.
If you are a mesomorph, you have an advantage edge over ectomorph and endomorph to be fit and muscular.
Traits of Mesomorph
- Medium bone structure with shoulders wider than the hips
- Developed athletic musculature
- Moderate metabolism; able to gain mass and lose weight easily
Endomorph
The endomorph tends to gain weight easily but difficult to lose it. Endomorph tends have wider build, shorter limbs as compared to the other two body types.
Traits of Endomorph
- Stockier bone structures and wider build
- Gains fat fast and relative slow to lose it
- Slow metabolism as compared to the other two body types
